On January 28, 2009, the Campus Ministry Office will expose for veneration the relic [particle of bone] of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron of teachers, students, and of catholic education.

Let us ask St. Thomas to intercede for us so that we may study very well and to teach us to love more our teachers.

Teachers Day

January 28 is the feastday of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron of Teachers and Students. St. Thomas is a priest of the Order of Preachers [Dominican] and a Doctor of the Church.

In line with his feast, the ICCS-Elementary Department will give honor to the Teachers and Personnel with a Eucharistic Celebration at 8:00AM and a simple program to thank them and to show their love to them.

Let us greet our teachers, personnel, and other co-workers of Catholic Education. Kiss them, hug them, and most of all, pray for them.

Grade 6 Retreat

Masaya, makulit, matakaw… yan ang tatak ng Grade 6 Pupils. Hehehe

Pero kahit anong mangyari, ang Retreat ay naging isang daan upang magkaroon ng bonding, oras sa Panginoon, at pananalangin.

Umiyak, humagulgol, nag-emote, at kung anu pa… isa lang yan sa paraan upang ang Diyos ay pumasok sa ating kalooban.

Pamilya, kaibigan, at sarili ang dapat isabunga ng retreat na ito.

Happy New Year, dear ICCSIANS!!!

As we start this new year, let me inform you of the following activities for the month of January 2009:

1. On January 6-8, three sections of Freshmen High will have their recollection in our chapel. So, on those days, do not disturb them…

2. At last, our altar servers will have their Commissioning, meaning they will be official altar servers of the Church, on our Community Mass on January 9, 2009, Friday.

3. From the second-third week of January, the Grade 6 will have the overnight recollection at St. John Marie Vianney Retreat House, Norzagaray, Bulacan. Pray for them and start writing “retreat letters” for your friends and crushes… hehehe

4. On January 30, 2009, our Grade 6 will have their SOLEMN CONFIRMATION through the laying on of hands, anointing of Chrism, and kiss of peace by our beloved bishop, His Excellency Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, D.D. We wish them good luck on their formation and practices.

Bro. Dave: Para sa akin, totoo si Santa Claus.

Interviewee: Sino po ba si Santa Claus?

Bro. Dave: Si Santa Claus ay isang modern name para kay Saint Nicholas of Bari. Si Saint Nicholas ay isang Bishop. Noong unang panahon kasi, ang mga Christians pinapatay dahil sa kanilang paniniwala kay Jesus. Kaya, pinahihirapan sila sa lahat ng bagay. Isang gabi daw, meron Tatay na may mga anak na dalaga, gustong impambayad ng isang Roman Officer ang kanyang mga anak sa utang ng kanilang tatay. Narinig ito ni Saint Nicholas, kaya’t bilang tulong at isang paraan ng kagandahang loob, sa kalagitnaan ng gabi ay naghulog siya ng pera sa bintana ng bahay ng mag-amang iyon. Kinaumagahan ay nagulat na lamang sila sa pera na binigay ni Saint Nicholas na hindi man nila nakilala. Pinatay si Saint Nicholas bilang isang martir kay Kristo.

Interviewee: Eh bakit po siya nagbigay ng pera?

Bro. Dave: Piniractice niya kasi ang charity. Charity means pagbibigay na walang hinahanap na kapalit. Alam niya na pag nagbigay ka ng tulong at pinasaya mo ang isang tao, yun ang tunay na diwa ng Pasko. Tulad ng ginawa ng Diyos sa atin, pinasaya niya tayo sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay niya ng kanyang kaisa-isang anak, si Jesus.

Interviewee: Eh bakit po ang kilala naming Santa Claus ay mataba at mahaba ang balbas, nakasuot ng pula, at may reindeer?

Bro. Dave: Yan ay isang modern image ni Saint Nicholas na pinauso na lamang ng taga-ibang bansa.

Interviewee: Pero bakit pagnagsulat ako ng wish sa Christmas tree minsan bigla na lang may regalo?

Bro. Dave: Ibig sabihin may nagmamahal sa iyo at may “Santa Claus” o “Saint Nicholas” ka sa buhay mo.

Interviewee: Last words n’yo po…

Bro. Dave: Be a Saint Nicholas o Santa Claus sa inyong pamilya, sa inyong mga kaibigan, at sa inyong mga sarili. Ibahagi mo ang pinakamahalagang regalo sa lahat, si Jesus, sa pamamagitan ng pagiging mabait.

Fiesta! Fiesta! Fiesta!

Because December 8, the day of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be a holiday for Catholic Institutions, December 5, 2008, the whole ICCS Family will celebrate its Fiesta.

The Grade School Mass will be presided by Fr. William, wherein some Grade 3 Pupils will receive their first communion. With the High School, Fr. Raymond, our Asst. School Director, will preside the Mass.

Vatican Youth Director Considers Faith in the Young

VATICAN CITY, DEC. 2, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Young people today are not against the Church; they simply don’t know much about it, says the new director of the youth section of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.

With his new role, French Father Eric Jacquinet will be one of the key figures in the organization of the next World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain. He spoke with L’Osservatore Romano about the causes for young people’s estrangement from the Church, principally noting “the family’s inability to transmit the faith.”

The priest, a member of the Emmanuel community, spoke about his work with estranged young people in the Archdiocese of Lyon. “In the Venissieux parish,” he said, “65% of young people are children of separated parents, and Christians are in a minority amid the immigrants. We had to evangelize door-to-door.”

Among today’s youth “more than a need of spirituality, there is a strong emotional desire, which generates a certain confusion with the spiritual experience. Worse still, this is not enough to foster adult persons in the faith,” Father Jacquinet noted.

The priest spoke about his experiences at World Youth Days, which he started to follow since they began in Rome, Italy, in 1985 and in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1989.

“In Santiago I was responsible for a bus with 24 French young people and as many others of ex-Czechoslovakia,” he explained. “Thus I came to know the Church in the catacombs: They had permission to travel only as tourists, and among them was a clandestine priest. Only two people in the group knew his true identity.”

Father Jacquinet participated in this year’s youth day in Sydney, to learn about the work that awaits him. He observed, “I was able to see how this intensely secularized Australian metropolis was transformed by the presence of the young people on the streets. Local priests themselves, some of whom were very skeptical, were convinced, because the Spirit did something grandiose, and Cardinal Pell met the challenge.”

Regarding the challenges that he will face in organizing the next World Youth Day, the priest mentioned two important issues. On one hand, he pointed out “the need to accompany the experience of the days with the growth of a mature faith.”

On the other hand, it is important to foster “the reception of pilgrims by the dioceses of the host country.” To this end, work has already begun with Cardinal Antonio María Rouco, archbishop of Madrid, and with other Spanish dioceses.

“I want to work with everyone, above all with the delegations of youth ministry of the five continents,” Father Jacquinet affirmed.

Looking beyond the youth days, the new laity council official explained that it is necessary to promote youth ministry throughout the world. “Places of reflection are needed,” he said, “for an ever more fragile generation. [...] The problem lies in the root, in that vacuum that young people need to fill and, [in order] to fill it, we must give concrete answers.”

Juniors’ Retreat

Let us pray for the third year High School students of our school for they will have their annual retreat at Saint John Marie Vianney Retreat House, Norzagaray, Bulacan. It will be at the 2 last weeks of November 2008.
